Third International Conference for Crop Improvement

IKP jointly Organised the Third International Conference in Crop Improvement held at University of Reading Malysia Campus in Johor Bharu Malaysia.

 

The Third International Conference on Crop Improvement 2017 (ICCI2017) organised by University of Reading was held for three days from 8 November 2017 until 11 November 2017 at University of Reading Malaysia Campus in Iskandar Puteri, Johor Bharu. Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) who previously hosted the first and the second ICCI gave a major contribution towards the success of ICCI2017 as the co-organiser. ICCI2017 with the theme 'Crop Innovations for the Health of the Population & Planet’ aimed to promote international co-operation and recent update on the innovations in crop research for ecosystem and human wellbeing. The conference had 4 sessions: Sustaining the Planet, Improving Postharvest Crop Quality, Biotechnology to Improve Crop Yield & Stress Resilience and Crop Improvement to Sustain Human Health. The speakers were invited from reputable institutions in the field of agriculture, biosciences and clinical sciences in the United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore and Southeast Asian countries.  Keynote addresses were given by Prof. Carol Wagstaff from University of Reading, UK, Dato' Mohamad Zabawi bin Abdul Ghani from Agrobiodiversity Research Centre MARDI, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yahya Awang from Universiti Putra Malaysia, Prof. Chungui Lu from Nottingham Trent University, UK, Dr. Penny Tricker from University of Adelaide, Australia and Dr. Luke Bell from University of Reading, UK. Meanwhile, plenary talks were given by Prof. Jerry Roberts from University of Plymouth, UK, Professor Asgar Ali from University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus, Dr Harikrishna Kulaveerasingam from Sime Darby Plantations Sdn. Bhd, Prof. Dr. Jennifer Harikrishna from University of Malaya and Prof. Dr. Siti Nor Akmar Abdullah from Institute of Plantation Studies, UPM. Two awards were given out; the best talk and best poster by an early career scientists won by Wan Mohd Aizat from Universi Kebangsaan Malaysia and Wong King Fook Clement from University Putra Malaysia, respectively.
