Briefing for New Graduate Students Institute of Plantation Studies, UPM (Semester 1, Session 2026/2027)

SERDANG, 29 April 2026 – The Institute of Plantation Studies (IKP) organized an orientation session and Laboratory Safety Regulations Briefing for new postgraduate students who registered with IKP for Semester 1, Session 2026/2027.

The briefing on the Postgraduate Program was delivered by the Deputy Director of IKP, Prof. Dr. Wong Mui Yun, who also serves as the IKP Postgraduate Coordinator, while the laboratory safety briefing was conducted by Ms. Nazlia Girun, Science Officer at IKP.

The program began with an introduction to the management team, research officers, associate researchers, laboratory staff, and administrative staff of IKP. In addition, students were exposed to safety-related information, including an explanation of basic laboratory safety rules, procedures for booking laboratory and equipment usage, handling of chemicals and chemical waste management, the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and the actions to be taken in the event of a laboratory accident. At the end of the session, students were taken on a tour of IKP laboratories by representatives of the IKP Postgraduate Student Club (IKPPGSC), Alvarino Jess Bryan and Daarshini Ganapathy.

A total of two (2) new students registered for this semester under the Agronomy & Sustainable Crop Protection Laboratory. The list of new IKP students is as follows:

Noor Idayu binti Imran Suppiah (PhD) under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ganesan Vadamalai

Mohd Zafrul Arif (PhD) under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ganesan Vadamalai
