KUALA LUMPUR, 16 Jun 2026 - The Institute of Plantation Studies (IKP), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), proudly participated in the "High-Level Forum: Carbon Credit and the Future of Malaysia's Oil Palm Economy", an event hosted by the Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) at Menara FELDA. The forum served as a strategic platform for dialogue among policymakers, industry leaders, and academic experts, focusing on the evolving role of carbon markets and sustainability in Malaysia’s palm oil sector.

Representing IKP, Dr. Muhammad Firdaus Sulaiman, Research Associate, was appointed as the Session Moderator for the high-level panel discussion. In this role, he facilitated engaging and insightful exchanges among speakers, ensuring that key issues surrounding carbon credits, climate policies, and industry adaptation were discussed in a structured and meaningful manner. His contribution highlighted IKP’s ongoing commitment to advancing knowledge dissemination and policy-relevant research in the plantation sector.  The high-level panel featured distinguished speakers from leading organizations, including Dr. Mohd Hafdzuan Adzmi, Senior Undersecretary of the Climate Change Division at the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change (NRES); Encik Saiful Adib Abdul Munaff, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC); and Dr. Mohd Hefni Rusli, Acting Deputy Director General (R&D) of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB).

Discussions centred on critical themes such as the development of carbon trading frameworks, the integration of oil palm cultivation within the green economy, and strategies to enhance sustainability practices across the plantation industry. The forum also emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts between government agencies, research institutions, and industry stakeholders to ensure that Malaysia remains competitive while meeting global environmental standards.  IKP’s active involvement in this forum reflects its strategic role in supporting sustainable development initiatives and contributing to national discourse on climate change and the future of the agricultural sector.
