Serdang, 19 December 2025 – Institute of Plantation Studies (IKP), UPM was awarded a research grant worth RM123,435 from Wilmar Agrifert Marketing Sdn. Bhd. for the project entitled “Development of Hi Kay Gano X biofertilizer using local microbial strains and organic carriers”. This project will be conducted for 24 months under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Wong Mui Yun, FASc, together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd. Rafein Zakaria as co-researcher. The collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between Wilmar Agrifert Marketing Sdn. Bhd. and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). In addition, the company also signed a Licensing Agreement with the amount of RM35,000 for the usage of two UPM microbe strains. The grant aims to develop innovative environmentally friendly biofertilizer by leveraging local microbial strains and organic carriers, aligning with Malaysia’s sustainability goals in agriculture and plantation management. The Institute of Plantation Studies extends its congratulations to the research team on this achievement, which is expected to have a significant impact on the agricultural sector and further strengthen collaboration between industry and academia. |
