KUALA NERUS, TERENGGANU, 15 August 2026 – The dedication, discipline and unwavering commitment demonstrated by the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) contingent throughout the 46th Malaysian Inter-University Staff Sports Championship (SUKUM) 2026 paid off handsomely as UPM was crowned Overall Runner-Up in the prestigious tournament. Held from 7 to 16 August 2026 at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Terengganu, the championship brought together staff members from public universities across Malaysia to compete in a wide range of sporting events. This remarkable achievement reflects the fighting spirit, dedication and strong teamwork of the UPM contingent in their efforts to uphold the university's reputation in the sporting arena. The accomplishment not only highlights the excellence of UPM staff in their academic and professional roles but also demonstrates their ability to excel and compete successfully in sports. Throughout the championship, UPM athletes showcased outstanding fitness, perseverance and sportsmanship in every event they participated in. Staff members from the Institute of Plantation Studies (IKP) also played a significant role in contributing to the success of the UPM contingent through their impressive performances in several sporting events. In the golf competition, the duo of Dr. Zailani Khudzaimah and Dr. Fariz Adzmi secured a Silver Medal after displaying consistent performances throughout the tournament. Meanwhile, in the athletics event, Puan Norafidah Hassan added to UPM's medal tally by winning two Silver Medals in the 4x100-metre and 4x400-metre relay events, demonstrating her competitiveness and athletic excellence at the inter-university level. In futsal, the participation of YM Raja Izzah Nadzirah Raja Othman contributed to the team's success as UPM secured a Bronze Medal, reflecting strong teamwork and determination throughout the competition. IKP extends its heartfelt congratulations and appreciation to its staff members who contributed medals and brought honour to UPM at SUKUM 2026.
