Serdang, 17 July 2025 — Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), through the Institute of Plantation Studies (IKP), successfully organized the DJI LiDAR Mapping & Surveying Training Course from 15 to 17 July 2025. The three-day course focused on developing practical skills in drone flight operations, data processing, and analysis using LiDAR technology, which plays an increasingly vital role in mapping, plantation management, and natural resource monitoring.
Participants were introduced to key modules including the fundamentals of LiDAR and its applications, DJI drone platforms, mission planning for mapping, flight operations, field data collection, safety and data management, and data processing using DJI Terra software. A case study session was also conducted to strengthen participants’ understanding of real-world applications.
The training course attracted researchers and industry practitioners, reflecting the growing importance of drone technology in supporting research and development in agriculture and geospatial sectors. This initiative not only reinforces UPM’s role as a leader in agricultural technology and innovation but also fosters stronger collaboration between the university and industry through knowledge sharing and technical expertise.
Such programs align with UPM’s aspiration to expand the impact of research on society and industry, while strengthening an innovative ecosystem that supports sustainable and high-tech development in agriculture and mapping.
