IKP Webinar Highlights Sustainable Bioenergy Crop Cultivation in Türkiye

 

SERDANG, 30 January 2026 – Institute of Plantation Studies (IKP), Universiti Putra Malaysia, organized the IKP Webinar Series 1/2026 entitled “Sustainable Bioenergy Crop Cultivation in Türkiye”, presented by Assoc. Prof. Recep Irfan Nazli from the Institute of Life Sciences, Çukurova University, Türkiye. Dr. Irfan, specialized in agronomy, bioenergy crops, and sustainable agricultural systems under Mediterranean climate conditions, has conducted extensive research on perennial grasses, sweet sorghum, biomass production, bioethanol, biogas, and combustion quality of energy crops.

During his presentation, Dr. Irfan shared insights into sustainable approaches for cultivating bioenergy crops, emphasizing their potential role in reducing reliance on fossil fuels and supporting renewable energy initiatives. He emphasized strategies to optimize crop yields while maintaining ecological balance, focusing on Türkiye’s unique agricultural landscape and its opportunities for bioenergy development.

The webinar provided participants with valuable knowledge on integrating sustainability into bioenergy crop production, addressing both environmental and economic aspects. More than 30 participants from UPM and other institutions joined the session via Zoom, engaging in discussions on future collaborations, joint research opportunities, and the integration of sustainability into bioenergy crop production. Participants gained valuable insights into both environmental and economic aspects of bioenergy development, reinforcing the importance of international knowledge exchange and research directions in sustainable agriculture and renewable energy.

This academic exchange reflects IKP’s commitment to fostering international collaboration and advancing research in sustainable plantation systems positioning UPM as a hub for innovation in renewable energy and sustainable agriculture.
