LI-COR Technology Workshop Strengthens Research in Plantation and Environmental Fields

SERDANG, 27 October – The Institute of Plantation Studies (IKP), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), in collaboration with Elite Scientific Instruments Sdn. Bhd., successfully organized a two-day workshop titled “Workshop on Advanced LI-COR Instrument for Crop and Environmental Monitoring” on 27–28 October 2025 at UPM, Serdang.

The workshop brought together 50 participants from various government agencies, private sectors, and higher education institutions, including the Malaysian Rubber Board, MARDI, MPOB, Tradewinds Plantation Bhd., SD-Guthrie Research Sdn. Bhd., Advanced Agriecological Research Sdn Bhd., SaraCarbon Sdn. Bhd., Samling Reforestation (Bintulu) Sdn Bhd, as well as representatives from Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, Universiti Malaya, and Nottingham University of Malaysia.

This program is part of a strategic collaboration series between IKP UPM and Elite Scientific Instruments Sdn. Bhd., with the following key objectives:

  • To provide theoretical and practical training on the use of LI-COR instruments from the United States in the fields of plantation, agriculture, and environmental monitoring.
  • To foster strategic partnerships between academia and industry in the application of cutting-edge research technologies.
  • To enhance the quality and effectiveness of research through the use of advanced instrumentation.

The workshop featured experienced instructors in LI-COR instrumentation, including Mr. Dave Johnson from LI-COR Environmental, USA; Dr. Muhammad Firdaus Sulaiman from Universiti Putra Malaysia; and Mr. Amir Shahidul Nillah from Elite Scientific Instruments Sdn. Bhd. The opening and closing ceremonies were attended by Mr. Hassim Mohamad Isa (Managing Director, Elite Scientific Instruments Sdn. Bhd.), Prof. Ts. Dr. Siti Khairunniza Bejo (Director, IKP), and Associate Prof. Dr. Ganesan Vadamalai (Program Chair).

The organization of this workshop is expected to strengthen local research capacity and broaden the application of LI-COR technology in plantation and environmental monitoring more extensively and effectively.
