
HAINAN, July 10th – In a significant stride for international agricultural collaboration, Prof. Dr. Wong Mui Yun, Deputy Director of the Institute of Plantation Studies at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), was invited as a distinguished speaker at the International Rubber Research and Development Board (IRRDB) Workshop on Tapping Panel Dryness Rehabilitation Technology 2025. The event, held from 8th to 12th July at the scenic New Century Resort Chess Bay in Changjiang, Hainan, China, brought together leading minds in rubber science from over a dozen countries.
Her participation was fully sponsored by the Rubber Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (RRI-CATAS), underscoring the growing recognition of Malaysia’s expertise in tropical crop science.
🎤 Presentation Highlight
Prof. Dr. Wong delivered a compelling talk titled “Natural Allies: Advancing Bio-Based Strategies for Sustainable Disease Management of Rubber”, where she emphasized the role of eco-friendly biological agents in combating diseases that threaten rubber productivity. Her approach aligns with global efforts to reduce chemical dependency and promote sustainable agriculture.

🤝 Strategic Collaboration Talks
Beyond the podium, Prof. Dr. Wong engaged in high-level discussions with Dr. Cheng Han, Deputy Director of RRI-CATAS, and researchers from the Crop Protection Unit. These talks explored potential bilateral collaborations in rubber disease research and the establishment of an expert exchange program between RRI-CATAS and UPM. Such initiatives aim to foster deeper scientific ties and accelerate innovation in rubber cultivation and protection.
