
SERDANG, June 13th – Institute of Plantation Studies (IKP) in collaboration with Faculty of Agriculture, UPM organized the Public Lecture @ Institute of Plantation Studies: Transforming Oil Palm & Rubber Smallholdings into High Value Crop Plantations in Agriculture Hall, Faculty of Agriculture. The invited speaker was Dr. Md Yusof Husin, who is the Managing Director of Hexagon Green Sdn. Bhd. and Hexagon Green Biotech. Sdn. Bhd. He has also served as the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, UPM and is well-recognized by local and international bodies in agriculture.

This public lecture highlighted the current challenge faced by local smallholders. Smallholders should be transformed and shifted into high-skill smallholders where high-value farming concepts and practices are implemented investing in potential high-value crops such as orchid, vanilla, strawberry, mango, fig, banana, coconut, pineapple, ginger, and durian. The alternative methods of farming systems should maximize the value of land assets, economically viable and attractive to ventures.

This knowledge has benefited approximately 100 audiences from various government and private agencies such as UPM, UiTM, RISDA, MARDI, Sime Darby, FGV Holdings, Department of Agriculture, Vanilla Ventures Sdn. Bhd., KLPK Sdn. Bhd., Macas Agro Sdn. Bhd., GPlanter Sdn. Bhd, Maple Auto Ventures, Koperasi Mutiara Maran Berhad, Bionic Agro Sdn Bhd, Yumeno Enterprise, LGM Properties Corporation, Wilmar Agrifert Marketing, Anggerik Yakin Sdn Bhd, Wasavè Sdn Bhd, SD Guthrie Research Bhd and Indonesian audiences through Facebook live stream from Diponegoro University, University of Mataram and HarvestPlus Solutions from Indonesia.
