SERDANG, 22 June 2026 – The Institute of Plantation Studies (IKP), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), in collaboration with the Faculty of Agriculture, successfully organized the Putra Plantation Forum Series 16 (PPF16), bringing together academics, industry professionals, researchers, and students to discuss the role of experiential knowledge in advancing plantation productivity and sustainability. Held under the topic “Harnessing Tacit Knowledge to Boost Plantation Productivity”, the forum emphasized the significance of tacit knowledge, practical wisdom, experience, and insights accumulated through years of industry involvement in addressing current challenges and driving innovation within the plantation sector. The forum featured Datuk Haji Daud Amatzin, Chairman of The Incorporated Society of Planters (ISP), as the invited speaker. With more than five decades of experience in the plantation industry, Datuk Haji Daud shared valuable perspectives on leadership, plantation management, workforce development, and the transfer of industry knowledge between generations. His presentation underscored the importance of combining traditional expertise with modern technologies to strengthen the competitiveness and resilience of the plantation sector. In his sharing session, Datuk Haji Daud highlighted that while technological advancements continue to transform plantation operations, practical field experience remains essential in addressing complex management challenges and ensuring operational excellence. He encouraged young professionals to learn directly from experienced practitioners and to cultivate lifelong learning habits within the industry. Datuk Haji Daud is a highly respected figure in Malaysia’s plantation industry. He has served as Chairman of The Incorporated Society of Planters (ISP) since 2009 and has held various key positions including Advisor to FELDA, Vice President and Head of Occupational Safety and Health Department at Felda Global Ventures Holdings Berhad, Executive Director of Felda Plantations Sdn. Bhd., Chief Executive of Academy FELDA, and Chief Executive of ISP. He also serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Boustead Plantations Berhad and has contributed extensively to industry development, professional certification, and higher education.
IKP Director, Prof. Ts. Dr. Siti Khairunniza Bejo, in her welcoming remarks, emphasized the importance of knowledge-sharing platforms such as the Putra Plantation Forum in fostering stronger linkages between academia and industry. She noted that industry-driven discussions are essential in preparing future plantation leaders and ensuring that research remains relevant to industry needs. The forum attracted about 90 participants from universities, research institutions, government agencies, and plantation companies, providing an excellent platform for networking, professional development, and knowledge exchange. The interactive question-and-answer session further encouraged meaningful discussions on contemporary plantation issues and future industry opportunities. The successful organization of PPF16 reflects IKP’s continuous commitment to supporting knowledge dissemination, industry engagement, and sustainable plantation development in line with UPM’s mission of advancing agriculture and plantation excellence through education, research, and innovation.
