SERDANG, 22 January 2026 – The Institute of Plantation Studies (IKP), Universiti Putra Malaysia successfully organized the Strategic Planning and Direction of IKP 2026 Workshop at the IKP Meeting Room. The workshop, held from 9.00am to 5.00pm, brought together all IKP staff as well as researchers under UDRP Plantation Crop and UDRP Smart Farming. The workshop was aimed at developing IKP’s growth strategy in a more systematic manner, aligned with the university’s aspirations and industry needs. Throughout the day, participants were given the opportunity to share ideas, propose new initiatives, and evaluate the effectiveness of existing strategic plans. Discussions covered research, industry collaboration, facilities and infrastructure, as well as strengthening human resource capacity. |

Key topics included strategies to enhance research through applications for public and private/international grants, as well as increasing publications in journals and books. In addition, the workshop highlighted the role of each laboratory in contributing to external collaborations through industry and community programs. The workshop also served as a platform to reinforce IKP’s vision as a leading reference center in plantation studies at both national and international levels. With active participation from all members, the workshop successfully produced strategic recommendations that will guide IKP in formulating its action plan for 2026. Overall, the workshop achieved its objectives by fostering a collective commitment to strengthen IKP’s position as a competitive, relevant, and impactful institute. The successful organization of this workshop demonstrates IKP’s determination to ensure clear direction and robust strategies in support of UPM’s vision and the development of the nation’s plantation sector. |
