Briefing for New Graduate Students Institute of Plantation Studies (IKP), UPM

 

SERDANG, May 20th – The Institute of Plantation Studies (IKP) had organized an orientation session and laboratory safety rules briefing for new graduate students who have been registered under IKP for Semester 2 Session 2023/2024. The introduction of IKP and its Post-Graduate Program was delivered by Prof. Dr. Wong Mui Yun as IKP’s Post-Graduate Student Coordinator, while the briefing on laboratory safety was delivered by Mrs. Nazlia Girun, Science Officer of IKP.

This program was started with an introduction to management members, research supervisors, associate researchers, laboratory staff and administrative staff at IKP. In addition, students were also exposed to safety information including explanations of the basic safety rules in the laboratory, the procedure for laboratory and equipment booking, how to handle chemicals and chemical waste management, the use of appropriate personal protective equipment, and actions that need to be taken if incidence happened in the laboratory.

At the end of the program, all new students were taken to visit all laboratories in IKP.

  1. Abdullah Zal Khan (PhD) from Afghanistan– Laboratory of Sustainable Agronomy and Crop Protection (SACP), under supervision of Prof. Dr. Wong Mui Yun
  2. Nur Annisa Mat Nordin (Master) – Laboratory of Laboratory of Plantation System Technology and Mechanization (PSTM), under supervision of Gs. Dr. Nik Norasma Che' Ya
