Course on Soil Identification and Classification Series 1/2024

  

SUNGAI TEKAM, August 8th  – Institute of Plantation Studies (IKP), UPM in collaboration with FGV Holdings Berhad has successfully organized the Course on Soil Identification and Classification Series 1/2024" program on 6-8 August 2024 at Pusat Penyelidikan Pertanian Tun Razak (PPPTR), Sungai Tekam. This program was held specifically for 30 staff under the subsidiary company of FGV Holdings Berhad, which is FGV Agri Services Sdn. Bhd. and FGV R&D Sdn. Bhd.

The program's opening ceremony was attended by the Director of IKP, Prof. Ts. Dr. Siti Khairunniza Bejo, the Head of the Laboratory of Sustainable Agronomy and Crop Protection, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vadamalai Ganesan and the Head of the R&D Division, FGV Holdings Berhad, Tuan Haji Romzi Ishak.

  

In the opening ceremony, IKP Director, Prof. Ts. Dr. Siti Khairunniza Bejo said that the Soil Course program is an annual IKP program where IKP receives overwhelming participation from industry and government agencies each year.

Meanwhile, according to the Head of the R&D Division, FGV Holdings Berhad, Tuan Haji Romzi Ishak said the knowledge of officers and researchers needs to be improved from time to time and the impact of appropriate land management beneficial towards efficient plantation management and provide good returns.

      

One of the participants, Mr. Ahmad Ramadzan (Head of Agri Solution & Fertilizer Recommendations) said the program successfully achieved its objective where all participants had interacted and actively engaged in theoretical, practical, and presentation sessions. In the practical session, participants were allowed to observe six (6) soil series: Gajah Mati, Munchung, Gong Cenak, Segamat, Tok Yong and Penambang. He also said the program was easy to understand, and the participants could follow the land classification and characterization process effectively.

  

The program held is also one of a series of collaborative programs between IKP UPM and FGV Holdings Berhad. The instructors involved in this program were Dr. Wan Mohamed Noordin Wan Daud, Dr. Khairul Hafiz Mohd Yusuff and Dr. Mohd Shafar Jefri Mokhatar, an expert referred by the government and private agencies.
