Discussion Strengthens Strategic Collaboration Between IKP and IRRDB

BALI, 2 July 2026 – The Institute of Plantation Studies (IKP) continues to strengthen its international collaborative network through a strategic discussion with the International Rubber Research and Development Board (IRRDB) aimed at enhancing the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two organisations in 2025. The discussion was held in conjunction with the IRRDB Socio-Economic Seminar 2026, which took place at the Aryaduta Bali Hotel, Kuta, Indonesia, from 30 June to 2 July 2026.

The IKP delegation was led by its Director, Prof. Ts. Dr. Siti Khairunniza Bejo, while IRRDB was represented by its Deputy Secretary General, Dr. Wan Abdul Rahaman Wan Yaacob. Also present at the meeting was IKP Deputy Director, Prof. Dr. Wong Mui Yun. The discussion served as an important platform to review the progress of existing collaborations and explore new initiatives that could generate greater impact on the development of the global rubber industry.

Since the signing of the MoU in 2025, IKP and IRRDB have undertaken various collaborative initiatives that have benefited both institutions. Key achievements include the sharing of expertise through international seminars, participation in knowledge development programmes, and joint efforts in preparing research grant applications focused on the advancement and sustainability of the rubber industry.

During the discussion, both parties also explored several follow-up initiatives to further expand the benefits of the partnership. These include the organisation of joint webinars involving researchers and industry experts from various countries, the development of the Future Leaders Programme to nurture a highly knowledgeable and competitive new generation of industry leaders, and the exploration of more strategic collaboration models in the areas of research, innovation, human capital development, and technology transfer.

The strengthened collaboration is expected to contribute to the development of innovative and high-impact solutions for the rubber industry, in line with current needs and increasingly complex global challenges. In addition, it is anticipated to create greater opportunities for international research networking, resource sharing, and capacity building that will benefit both the research community and industry stakeholders.

Through the continued commitment of both organisations, IKP and IRRDB remain optimistic that this strategic partnership will continue to grow and serve as a catalyst for innovation, talent development, and the enhancement of the rubber industry's competitiveness towards a more sustainable and progressive future.
