SERDANG, July 1st, – An evacuation drill simulating a chemical spill incident was successfully conducted at the Institute of Plantation Studies (IKP) and JINM Building on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM. The drill aimed to enhance awareness and readiness among building occupants in handling emergency situations, while also testing the competencies of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) at both facilities. |
The drill portrayed a situation where a student accidentally spilled a chemical, resulting in burn injuries to the hand. This scenario required immediate evacuation and swift response actions. The drill involved various teams personnel, including First Aid Unit (UBM), University Health Centre (PKU), Emergency Response Team (ERT) IKP, Emergency Response Team JINM Building (TNCJINM, CIRNeT, UCTC), Occupants, visitors, students, and cleaning personnel at IKP and JINM. All occupants successfully assembled at designated assembly points (AP). A full head count was completed efficiently within approximately three minutes, reflecting strong incident management capabilities. Traffic marshals from ERT facilitated smooth movement of UBM, APSeC, and ambulance services to the site, while ERT First Aid personnel provided immediate assistance to the victim. Prior to that, the Special ERT team instructed the victim to rinse the affected hand using the emergency shower in the laboratory before being escorted to the Casualty Collection Point (CCP) for further treatment. Overall, the drill demonstrated a high level of preparedness and understanding among staff and ERT members regarding their roles and responsibilities in emergency situations. The exercise marks a crucial step toward strengthening the institution’s response strategy for unforeseen incidents in the future. |
