August 17^th - Institute of Plantation Studies (IKP) in collaboration with Faculty of Agriculture, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) had organized the Putra Plantation Forum Series 13 (PPF13) in Agriculture Hall, Faculty of Agriculture. The head of Research and Development Division, FGV Holdings Berhad, Tuan Haji Romzi Ishak was invited as a special guest speaker to the program, and he presented a talk entitled “Innovative Replanting Practices towards High Oil Plam Yield”. He highlighted the gap in terms of current performance as compared to the actual oil palm potential in Malaysia. He also shared the systems being implemented by FGV and FELDA to improve the current plantation performance to reach a good managed-estate. In addition, he also suggested that replanting program should be done by using high-performance planting materials to increase production yields, raise income levels, and improve the economic livelihoods of smallholder farmers.

This program was attended by 80 participants from various government and private agencies including researchers and industrial players. Feedback given by the participants indicated that the presented topic was engaging with the current scenario in the plantation sector and provided an in-depth understanding of the overall replanting-related issues.  It is hoped that this program could provide a platform for academicians, researchers, industry players, and smallholders to hear the sharing from an expert on critical issues related to the sustainability of the country's plantation industry.
