August 22^nd - Institute of Plantation Studies (IKP) in collaboration with Faculty of Agriculture, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) organized the Putra Plantation Forum Series 14 (PPF14) in Agriculture Hall, Faculty of Agriculture. The managing director of CY-Handee Group of Companies, Mr. Pong Kai See, FASc was invited as a special guest speaker to the program, and he presented a talk entitled “Prospect of Rubber Industry in Malaysia and Global”. He highlighted the gap in terms of current performance as compared to the actual rubber potential, and the rubber compound annual growth rates for the past 10 years in Malaysia and globally. He also shared the current challenge local rubber smallholders face, the rubber planting materials in Malaysia, and their productivity to improve the economic livelihoods of smallholders.  

This program was attended by 70 participants from various government and private agencies including researchers and industrial players. Feedback given by the participants indicated that the presented topic was engaging with the current scenario in the plantation sector and provided an in-depth understanding of the overall rubber-related issues.  It is hoped that this program could provide a platform for academicians, researchers, industry players, and smallholders to hear the sharing from an expert on critical issues related to the country's rubber industry.
