Santuni Madani Program @ Kg. Tunku: IKP Helps Cultivate STEM Interest Among Students

Petaling Jaya, 23 Feb – The organization of the Santuni Madani Program @ Kg. Tunku by the UPM Community Transformation Center was in collaboration with committee members of Masjid Kg. Tunku aim to increase the potential of the village by monitoring and identifying the problems and socio-economic needs of the local population. This program was officiated by Yang Berbahagia Dato' Professor Dr. Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah, Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia with the presence of 300 people from the community around Kampung Tunku. Also present were Yang Berbahagia Prof. Dr. Arifin Abdu, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) UPM, Yang Berusaha Prof. Madya Dr. Khairulmazmi Ahmad, Director of UCTC UPM, Yang Berusaha Tuan Haji Wan Huzaini Wan Hussin Nazir of Masjid Kg Tunku and university management. There are various programs implemented, including agricultural demonstrations, basic life support (CPR) demonstrations, free health checks by the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Hospital (HSAAS) UPM, agricultural exhibitions and edu-tourism at UPM, sales of agricultural products by the Putra Agriculture Centre, gotong royong activities around the Kampung Tunku Mosque by UPM students under the UPM Co-Curriculum and Student Development Centre, heritage food competitions, folk sports, and children's colouring.

 

The Institute of Plantation Studies (IKP) has been invited to implement the knowledge transfer of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in an effort to strengthen the national STEM agenda, especially with primary school students. This STEM program aims to foster students' interest in studying STEM fields and to continuously cultivate STEM outside the classroom. Seven IKP staff were also involved in this program and a total of 48 primary school students from Level 1 and Level 2 participated. The motivational talk session delivered by Associate Prof. Dr. Mohd Rafein Zakaria successfully attracted students' interest in delving deeper into the STEM field. This STEM program is expected to run throughout 2025 with various hands-on and innovative initiatives. Hopefully, this program can improve the skills and develop children's talents so that they can become pillars of the country's science and technology progress in the future.
