Sept., 27 - Following the visit of the top management members of the Institute of Plantation Studies (IKP) to National Innovation Research Agency (BRIN), Indonesia in November 2022, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) is being finalised and bilateral activities have been underway. In February 2023, three (3) researchers from BRIN led by Dr Ahmad Fathoni, have made a courtesy visit to IKP and have drawn up several research activities and collaborations that will be carried out including researchers from IKP to go there as visiting researchers (VR). Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Rafein Zakaria, Head of Laboratory of Processing and Product Development (PPD) was the first researcher from IKP and among the seven (7) VRs from Universiti Putra Malaysia who visited BRIN for this year's 2023 program.

Assoc. Prof. Madya Dr. Rafein was attached to the research group "Enzymes for Bioenergy" under the Applied Microbiology Research Center and assisted by the host Dr. Ika Rahmatul Layly. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rafein was directly involved in discussions and research planning with researchers at BRIN and also supervised graduate students undergoing industrial training at BRIN. He also shared a lot of experience as a researcher including research topics, grant applications, and scientific writing to researchers at BRIN.
