Visit and Interaction Session by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation), UPM to Institute of Plantation Studies (IKP)


 

SERDANG, January 11th – An official visit and interaction session by YBhg. Prof. Dr. Zamberi Sekawi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) to Institute of Plantation Studies (IKP) was held on 11th January 2024. This official visit was also joined by Prof. Ts. Dr. Goh Yong Meng (Deputy Director of Research Grant Division, Research Management Center) and Mr. Mohd Khairi Hasan (Special Officer, TNCPI). Their arrival was welcomed by the Director of IKP, YBhg. Prof. Dr. Shaufique Fahmi Ahmad Sidique, member of the top management and research officers of IKP.

In this visit and interaction session, the Director of IKP has presented and elaborated on IKP’s achievements, plans, and way forward in contributing to the growth of the plantation industry in Malaysia. The heads of laboratories, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ganesan Vadamalai (Head of Laboratory of Agronomy and Sustainable Plant Protection), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nazmi Mat Nawi (Head of Laboratory of Plantation System and Mechanization Technology) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Rafein Zakaria (Head of Laboratory of Product Processing and Development Laboratory) also had the opportunity to elaborate on the role and focus areas of each laboratory.

 YBhg. Prof. Dr. Zamberi also shared his views and aspirations to strengthen the role of the institute at UPM as a leader in the field of research and at the same time as a reference center for the industry. In this event, YBhg. Prof. Dr. Zamberi also visited laboratories and transgenic greenhouse. He also urged that the internationalization agenda needs to be emphasized through an international research network as one of the strategies to increase the visibility of IKP as a reference center for the Malaysian plantation industry at the global level.
