November, 7^th - In line with the requirements of the Institute of Plantation Studies (IKP) and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) to maintain the visibility at the international level, a working visit by the top management members of IKP to Riset Perkebunan Nusantara (RPN) and Badan Riset and Inovasi (BRIN), Bogor, Indonesia was conducted on 7th November 2022. The working visit was led by IKP Director, YBhg. Prof. Dr. Shaufique Fahmi Ahmad Sidiqui, together with Deputy Director of IKP, YBhg. Prof. Dr. Wong Mui Yun, and three laboratory heads, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nolila Mohd Nawi, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nazmi Mat Nawi and Assoc. Prof.Dr. Mohd Rafein Zakaria.

The visit was part of IKP’s 2022 roadshow to promote IKP and to establish IKP’s networking and linkages activities at the international level.  In addition, this visit provides a platform to discuss bilateral cooperation related to commodities and plantations industries which focus on the development of human resources and research technology at the upstream, processing, and downstream levels. Other aspects such as student and staff mobility and joint organization of international conferences were also discussed.

Apart from that, the IKP delegation also had the opportunity to visit some of the main research laboratories in main research laboratory of Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN) and had a chance to meet with Dr. Ahmad Fathoni, the Head of Applied Microbiology Research Center and Dr. Sarjiya Antonius, a senior researcher in BRIN. It is hoped that this visit will have an impact on bilateral cooperation in the development of human capital and technology development related to plantations in the Southeast Asian region.
